FELIX PITAO

ALGORIST

ALGORIST is a distinct facet of Felix Pitao’s artistic practice in which the final image is generated solely through algorithmic processes—pure code, without reference to external data, imagery, or trained models. In these works, no generative AI contributes to the image itself; instead, AI may be involved earlier in the process, assisting in the generation or refinement of the underlying code. This subtle collaboration positions AI not as a co-artist, but as a kind of meta-tool: a generator of instructions for a system that then operates independently. The resulting images emerge from rule-based logic—fractals, cellular automata, recursive structures—executed without human intervention once the algorithm is in motion. The visual language is minimal, precise, and often abstract, revealing the austere beauty of computation acting on its own terms.
